.45 Gap Glock - 45 ACP (aka 45 Auto) is here to stay. As the standard cartridge for the M1911 pistol, which has been in service with the US Armed Forces for over 110 years, the 45 ACP is part of America's .45 caliber pistol cartridge.
It's just that AKP 45 should have more followers. But it's true. As a commenter on the M1911 forum once said, "We're called boomers because our guns shoot." 45 AKP supporters will no sooner change to the second than to ask for spaghetti for Thanksgiving dinner.
.45 Gap Glock
45 Auto is a much smaller cartridge, but both calibers behave this way in most guns. 45 GAP is hard to find when it comes to ammo and generally more expensive to shoot. The two calibers are not interchangeable with handguns due to differences in cartridge sizes.

All of this is to say that Glock had some issues when it introduced the 45 GAP in 2003. Inspired by the success of the 10mm reduction (and recoil) until it became the 40 S&W, Glock decided it could retool. it by introducing what is essentially a shortened version of the 45 ACP.
The 45 GAP hits its mark as its case is .143" shorter than the 45 ACP. The 45 GAP can do this without sacrifice because it is designed for today's powder. Today's powder smaller than the powder in the Browning at the turn of the century. Glock also made the case to reduce the chance of neck discharge. They did not try to make their .45 GAP pistol more powerful than its predecessor.
This is where Glock went wrong. 40 S&W has become popular because it delivers performance similar to the smaller 10mm from a smaller gun. But the G37 rifle for 45 GAP is about half an ounce lighter than the 45 ACP G21!
Compare that to the Glock 40 S&W pistol, which is 7 ounces lighter than their 10mm version, and you'll know exactly how Glock misses the ball. They reduced the charge but failed to achieve their goal by not reducing the weapon to fit.

45 GAP failed. If there are law enforcement agencies still using it, then they won't be around much longer. Few people use it. If you are thinking about buying a 45 GAP gun, be aware that finding the ammo you need can be frustrating.
In addition to all of this, we have to ask: does the 45 GAP do the same thing as the 45 ACP - just from a smaller package? Let's compare their ballistics, stopping power, and recoil to see how the Glock stacks up to the 45 ACP.
On the surface, the 45 GAP is actually a shorter version of the 45 ACP ammo: a single bullet head and chamber pressure, with less metal to contain either. The short 45 GAP cover is not irreplaceable with modern powder. Therefore, on paper, there is no reason to expect that these two circuits will work through each other. What about in practice?
We tried to choose an apple-to-apple cartridge to compare with each other, one for each of the 45 GAP combined with the 45 ACP bullet weights: 185, 200 and 230 grains. As our ballistic data shows, both cartridges offer similar ballistic performance. Speed of national wages. The GAP 45 is very different from the ACP 45 cartridge, which is similar in weight. Ammunition can be faster for one round or another depending solely on the bullet load.

This is a good place to point out that the 45 ACP offers an advantage that the 45 GAP does not: overpressure ammunition. The 45 ACP +P cartridge can carry more punches, but it will give a smoother trajectory and end up with more kinetic energy. In theory you can load your 45 GAP +P. As far as we know, it was never produced commercially.
Many factors determine how well a cartridge can repel a threat. Since the 45 ACP and 45 GAP fire the same cartridges, their initial wound channel diameter and partial density (which defines the penetration capacity of the bullet) are the same. But the amount of energy a bullet can transfer to its target and effect - that is undoubtedly the most important factor that determines stopping power.
GAP 45 supports its predecessor in terms of power and impact. Depending on the company that made the ammo, you may find 45 GAP or 45 ACP hit the target hard.
It should be noted that, despite Glock's intentions, the 45 GAP is seen as a weaker version of the 45 ACP. We didn't see it, although you can't argue with someone who did.

None of these calibers are considered popular for long range use. We put this table out of curiosity rather than any practical case. You can see that the 45 ACP and 45 GAP are excellent when it comes to bullet drop from 100 yards.
For personal protection, it is better to use a light gun. They create a smaller muzzle roll, which in turn allows for faster and more accurate shooting. In other words, when the threat continues and you lose the first time, you want to spend as little time as possible on the second. If he doesn't know about it before, the first shot shows that it's him or you.
Comparing the return potential of the above six charges is straightforward. We already have their weight and nose speed; now, all we need is to load them up with ammunition. For comparison, let's say a 45 ACP round has six powder rounds and a 45 GAP round has five. In addition, the ACP 45 round is fired from the G21 29.28 ounce rifle; 45 GAP color, 28.75 ounce G37 gun.
Bottom line: these two cartridges produce nearly equal recoil power. You can see little difference between the two. Of course, a heavier gun will always make the feeling of impact softer, but you will not benefit from a significant reduction in impact if you choose one cartridge over another.

Behind the 9mm, the 45 ACP is America's second most popular handgun cartridge. Therefore, as long as guns are produced, the 1911 will continue to be printed. This makes finding ACP 45 ammunition as easy as going online or to a sporting goods store. This makes the 45 ACP pistol less expensive than the market allows.
45 GAP is a different story. You can easily buy a G37 while Glock still makes it. But finding 45 GAP ammo—let alone multiple types of 45 GAP ammo—can be frustrating. The demand for 45 GAP is not enough for ammunition manufacturers to constantly invest resources in its production. As a result, the selection can be limited even at the best of times.
The GAP 45 works very similarly to the 45 ACP. It can be just as accurate, powerful and easy to use as its predecessor. But the GAP 45 did not provide enough for shooters to replace the well-established and popular cartridge.
The GAP 45 will be around for a while, but we expect it to eventually go out of production. In the years to come, it will survive only as a curiosity among the carriers who will be interested in handcrafting cartridges and their specific details.

We don't think we've said it enough: Don't buy the GAP 45. The 45 ACP does everything the new cartridge does - it's just a thousand times more powerful and it won't go away anytime soon. The GLOCK pistol has many great features and is a popular duty pistol. It features a low-profile axis and compression that can be controlled in practice. All GLOCK models are the epitome of reliability.
And even the 1911 fan expected the speed of GLOCK to respond to customer needs. One of the best examples of GLOCK's fast movement to meet real needs is the GLOCK Model 37.
The GLOCK 37 has been around for a few years and was adopted by the New York State Police a few years ago and deserves attention. When a gun fails to do its job, we try to isolate the cause. Human failure needs to be addressed because ultimately, if a bullet misses the target, it is a human problem. Unfortunately, in most cases, failure is also a human problem. But when a cop shoots and the gun doesn't work, we blame the caliber.
We gave up on the .38 caliber revolver for a number of reasons, including its inability to wound, sometimes referred to as "stopping power." Another reason is the increased need for ammunition, sometimes called "firearms". Some handguns, like .357 Magnum ammunition."
