Out of the box, it was the 502's trigger that perhaps stood out the most to me. While many rimfire pistols at best have rimfire triggers, this is not the case with the hammer operated single action FN 509. The trigger on this bad boy is clean and crisp, and at over 4.5 pounds it breaks but feels. A little lighter than that, it also has a nice reset, which is quite short with a click that can be felt and heard.
I have shot dozens of models of .22 LR pistols made by Umarex, and the 502 seems to be the best level of output from that factory. From the polymer formula and feel in the hand to the quality of the machining and finish, it looks and feels like a quality firearm.

If I could change anything about the 502 Tactical, I would probably use a stiffer recoil spring, especially for use when shooting silently. The extra recoil pressure from the silencer makes the slide harder, and the stiffer recoil spring allowed me to abuse my poor pistol even before the stop began.
Not to get too mad at the weeds, but these hammer .22s rely heavily on hammer spring stiffness to resist recoil. It works great but doesn't help sliding back to the battery. Given the distance the 502 blank brass fire, the FN could get away with a stronger recoil spring.
The FN 502 Tactical is everything I want from a .22 LR pistol. It's a standard-sized rifle with the same ergonomics, control and overall performance as a quality centerfire pistol (FN 509 series), so it works great as an affordable trainer. It is suppressor ready and optic ready, with the necessary adapters to match your desired optic. It has great sights, high firepower and is an absolute blast to shoot.
In a dystopian world where I could only own a .22 LR pistol, I can totally see the FN 502 Tactical winning that spot.
