The new Anaconda is similar to its predecessor but there are two major improvements The Anaconda 2021 is built with new materials and processes that have stopped producing revolutions nearly three decades ago due to advances in manufacturing techniques and metallurgy.

The new model is now available only in powerful .44 Magnum, which also allows for the use of less powerful .44 special weapons. It comes in two barrel lengths, 6 inches and 8 inches, which have a bright stainless steel finish. I chose the 6-inch version, which to me feels easier and more natural to point than the 8-inch version.

Some of the new features introduced with the new breed of snake revolvers from Colt are a user replaceable front sight, a thick top strap that drills and taps to rail scope, and new adjustable rear sights. My first field trip with the new Anaconda was just a functional test I wanted to see how the new revolver performed in single and double action Due to the current shooting conditions, i took some of my personal tools to the range - some mild rounds pushing the grain projectile 240 to 900 fps. That load is easy to handle and fun to shoot I put the new Snake through its paces, firing over 100 rounds through the MGM Steel silhouette at 10 to 15 yards in single and double action.

Handball at this speed was a blast - no expectations With this mild load, the Anaconda was just perfect, stacking the rounds on top of each other Although these "soft" loads were pleasant to shoot , they still carried enough energy to hit the target. One thing I don't mind about the Anaconda is the serrated texture on the trigger face. It's unnecessarily sharp and a smooth trigger feels and works better

Now for the accuracy test I know this revolver is capable of great accuracy at longer distances, but due to time and range constraints I only shot within about 20 yards. I used a Ransom International Steady Multi-Cal rest, a fully adjustable, machined aluminum rest capable of providing an extremely strong shooting platform. The bullet I chose for this test was Federal Premium's 240-grain Hydra-Shock JHP bullet. This bullet has a published muzzle velocity of 1210 FPS with 780 pounds of energy. It certainly is

Due to the ammo supply, I could only shoot four 5 round groups The average group was 1.85 inches for me, that's a good result and I bet with practice I can definitely do better One thing I can say for sure is that Hog Grips are a great addition to this big snake when shooting a whole house of .44 Magnum rounds. I have dropped similar loads on other revolvers with all types of grips and found these Hogue grips to be comfortable to hold and very effective at reducing recoil.

If you don't like the stock configuration of this revolver, you can customize it in a number of ways. One thing I did is order a set of small Pachmayr display grips, which look like nostalgia from the 80's and early 90's. I had the grip style on my original Anaconda and while the Hogs are probably better in most cases, I like the Pachmeres for feel reasons.

Another custom touch I plan to add is a scope base Although I won't be using the revolver for hunting, I'd like to see what the Anaconda can do with an optic attached.

After all the shooting I've done with the new Colt Anaconda, I can only say that I really like it. It took me back to the early 90's when anacondas roamed freely in shooting ranges across America. I got this new model with its modern features on a classic from the 90s.
